Occupational Therapy

Deer Lake Occupational Therapy

Our Deer Lake Occupational Therapy Department utilizes a team effort to cover a wide range of services to the Deer Lake and surrounding region. With both an Occupational Therapist and a Physiotherapist the team ensures specialized service standards. The Occupational Therapist is an integral part in assisting return to activities of daily living following an injury, when living with an illness, or as one progresses through the natural aging process. Adrienne Oliver has experience in many areas of private practice and is passionate about her work. The Physiotherapist Duane Snow provides one on one work hardening and occupational rehabilitation to prepare injured workers for returning to their job.

Services

  • The Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist offer the following:
  • Clinic-Based Rehab
  • Work-site Rehab
  • Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE’S or FA’s)
  • Ergonomic Assessments
  • Home Assessments
  • Progressive Goal Attainment Program

In providing Occupational Therapy services to clients/patients, the Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist consult and collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team which includes the Physician, Massage Therapists, and/or Chiropractors in order to offer the best, client-centred care.

Referrer Expectations

The Deer Lake Occupational Therapy department provides detailed and thorough assessments and reports to referrers such as WHSCC and Insurance case managers. Though highly specific to each case, the report of assessment may outline specific recommendations for adaptive devices, task modification, home modification, rehabilitative exercises, or return to return to work plans.

Recommendations are based on the client’s specific needs and occupational performance issues. The Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist may liaise with employers, caregivers, or other healthcare providers involved in the client’s care to ensure coordinated planning and continuity of care.

Experience and Training

The Occupational Therapist has experience working with individuals with physical injuries, mental illness, and cognitive disabilities. Training is in the Matheson system for Functional Capacity Evaluation and Ergonomic Assessment approaches. Both professionals continue striving towards advanced education surrounding the latest Occupational Therapy or Rehabilitation approaches.

The Occupational Therapist also travels throughout the western region to provide Occupational Therapy service at all Health and Performance Centre clinics, in individuals’ homes, and in workplaces.

Client Service

The staff at the Deer Lake clinic are helpful, friendly, and make the process of initiating and receiving Occupational Therapy or Rehabilitation services a smooth experience. Our Deer Lake clinic has all the necessary assessment and exercise equipment to provide services and we commit to a professional, welcoming, and respectful environment.
